India’s largest realty firm DLF on Thursday said it has given Rs.1,450 crore contract to Australian construction firm Leighton to build a luxury housing project in Gurgaon. “Leighton Welspun Contractors has been awarded the main contract to build the super luxury residential development ‘The Camellias’ for DLF at Gurgaon valued at Rs 14.5 billion,” DLF said in a statement.
Leighton Welspun Contractors Pvt Ltd is part of Leighton Group, one of the world’s largest EPC and contract mining organisation. Its Indian operations commenced with the first contract in 1998.
The Camellias will occupy about 16.15 acres and a tentative built up area of approximately 4.5 million sq ft.
The project will have 429 apartments, including 14 penthouses.
The construction will commence in the third quarter of 2013 and will be completed by third quarter of 2017.
In order to expedite the delivery of projects, DLF has decided to outsource the construction to third parties. “Having secured our first major project with India’s largest and most respected developer, we are excited to display our full competence through ‘The Camellias’,” Leighton Asia Managing Director Ian Edwards said.
“In line with its overall vision for future, DLF is strategically enhancing its project delivery capabilities by associating with like-minded channel partners with an internationally proven track record. Leighton was chosen for The Camellias project after serious deliberations by DLF,” DLF Projects CMD Ravi Kachru said.
